Why did you forget me? I held my breath while waiting underneath an autumn tree. Leaves golden red yellow lightly green fall on my shoulders. The light breeze blows them around my feet. You told me you loved me and called me silly. I thought our friendship was stronger. You told me. You told me. You tricked me. As I stand still light headed I watch the final leaf drift passed my eyes. So slowly I can feel the rips and tears of this one battered leaf. At some point it must have been full and green. So why now does it fall by itself. Not even enough time to dance at my legs. No it was crushed by a set of toes walking together hands grasping hands. Smiles so wide they could not hide the happiness shinning through. I recognize one face. Breathe. I try to talk. Am I speaking? You continue walking. I do not want to be in the way. You look to happy for me to ruin it. I will bite my lip and hold in the tear dying to burst out. Why did you forget me? I will leave as soon as I can breathe. But the airs so chilly. The snow buried my feet. It first danced in swirls spins thrashed against winds. Then lays to rest beneath around over my shoes. The shoes you liked. You laughed at the different colored laces. I cannot see them under the frozen water. The ice slips chills up my legs. Slits through the skin cutting out any warmth still left in my blood stream. The silence is only broken by an occasional cough or sneeze. Even that echoes only once then returns to the last words you left me. Why did you forget me? My hair is dampened by the daily rains following do drops from budding leaves. Do not worry I will leave soon enough. Foot goes numb. So I kick the soil to my left. Hoping to awaken this worthless limb. As the dirt pushes across a stem reaches out grabbing and pulling the sunlight. Its wet shimmer blinds my eyes. I squint blocking out the bright light. A single tear brakes the trance. Breath returns. Life refills. Falling to my knees I scream out to you asking you just one question. Why did you forget me?
