There once lived a girl
her eyes such a blue.

She lived with her mother,
who gave her love true.

But one day came a man,
who took her mother away.

She was forced to move on,
sleep in a barn on hard hay.

She held her mothers locket,
the only thing she had left.

She cried in the night time,
for the man committed theft.

In the day she picked flowers,
but couldn't keep them together.

So she used her white ribbon,
to keep them with each other.

She remembered her mother,
who brushed her hair at night.

And tied her hair in that ribbon,
to keep her bangs out of sight.

She put the ribbon in the locket,
and placed it upon her neck.

But the man did not like it,
took it away gave her heck.

That poor young child cried,
no matter what the man said.

When the man went to see,
the next day she was dead.
