Annie was a looker back in her day with the sweetest smile in her class,
her heart was big as a harvest moon, but fragile like fine cut glass.
She fell in love with a miner's son, but her parents would not approve,
they sent her off to a private school and paid his family to move.
It was Saturday night when I saw their son walk to the parents door
and that was the night he disappeared to never be seen anymore.
His parents searched for him everywhere, he was nowhere to be found,
rumor is they had him killed and he lays in the cold, damp ground.
I remember the Christmas she came home finding what they had done
and from the house I heard her scream, then a shot fired from a gun.
On the day they held her service, her parents spoke not a word,
the pastor asked God's mercy and I am sure God heard.
Annie was a looker back in her day with the sweetest smile in her class,
her heart was big as a harvest moon, but fragile like fine cut glass.
She fell in love with a miner's son, but her parents would not approve
and they sent her away not knowing, it would be her final move.
