Look at me
And tell me what do you see?
Do you see my heart?
Do see that I am just that Asian guy?
Can you tell me apart from any other Oriental?
There is something different about me
And it is not the fact I may be Vietnamese because so many are too
Nor is it that I try to keep my distance from others
No, it is the fact I am not average
I am above average
Writing poetry,
Letting my soul flow out
To let it go higher and higher
To obtain something
That may never be attained
So now look at me once again
And not see my appearance
This outershell of a man
See that I am a writer
That in my veins is something else
This heart, this mind, this soul
Sets me apart from others
I am a poet,
I am me
Nothing more, nothing less
