I can't believe I let you steal me away.
I was never made for taking,
much less yours.
But you spirited me away
beneath a pregnant moon.
I am still trying to retrieve my breath.
It deserted me
and the world stopped
for the few moments it took
for your arms to wrap around me.

I can't believe you love me.
Your hand in mine feels too good to be true,
and, more often than not,
my emotions are right.
But I'll let you waste your time.
Every grain of sand in the hourglass
will be worth it in the end.
Our secret world will be
structured and remembered
by flighty things;
smiles and laughs
and kisses and held hands.

Stored in the vessel
that beats behind my ribs,
our memories remain intact, whole.
An extra beat and flutter reminds me of our nights.
Your goodbye is an acoustic shadow
that trails our silhouettes,
but my heart isn't ready to venture into truth.
I'll save little pieces of you in me,
Until I grow tired of them
and let you go.
I love you until your shadow disappears.
